While @Channeleven was investigating Rebeccah Starlight's project titled Witches, I decided to watch her Q&A. It... was a doozy, and I skipped the spoilers initially. What am I implying? For starters, Witches... more like Rebeccah Magica. That's right, the premise is more or less blatantly copied from Madoka Magica, an anime that I consider so much better at characterization than Evangelion, but I'm not here for a review. One of the characters, Anna Presto (I think?), looks similar to an adult version of Sally from Growing Around, but I think it is a coincidence. For example, Sally has green eyes while Anna's eyes are brown. However, her project is likely more different from mine than I expected. Of Petals and Magic is meant to be a somewhat darker, yet still kid-friendly take on the Sabrina cartoon from the 90's, with a dash of Little Shop of Horrors. I have been working on it since 2021, partially as a coping mechanism for depression. While I'd like for it to be a cartoon someday, I think it would sooner be a comic/graphic novel. Meanwhile, Rebeccah's project was planned for a decade, and sounds akin to an animated storybook that is meant to be taken more seriously. So, I returned to DeviantArt after a 2-year absence. You probably already know that, but I forgot to mention it aside from a status update. For 2 years unrelated to my absence, I was planning on a new project. Since Mr. Enter has Growing Around, Ava/ABwingz has Hammer Space, and ChikoritaCheezits has Can't Buy Happiness, I decided to join this bandwagon with my own project: Of Petals and Magic (WIP) - Google Docs Of Petals and Magic had a few working titles, and this is actually one of them. It needed a good title related to flowers and magic, and I'm not great with names. This takes a large chunk of inspiration from Sabrina, The Animated Series, except it has several differences. For some examples: - Kaitlin and other witch-folk generally have odd hair colors that mortal humans don't. (an actual thing in the older Sabrina incarnations) - Witches and warlocks become empowered about a week after being born, and magic during infancy is fairly weak except for sneezes and hiccups. -
